Our client an international consumer goods manufacturer is seeking an experienced leader for their US facility in northern Kentucky.
Manufacturing/Operations Manager
Reporting to the Director of North American Operations, this mandate will be to manage and oversee overall manufacturing operations which may include activities pertaining to Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, Quality Assurance, Finance and Human Resources. The incumbent will be accountable to initiate recommendations to improve productivity, quality, efficiency of operations and staff developmental activities. This leader relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with the ability to perform a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity, accountability and latitude is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute the production plan through effective use of Associates and equipment.
- Promote and maintain 5S methodology and ISO-9001 procedures.
- Place strong emphasis on LEAN manufacturing – develop, implement and maintain required LEAN manufacturing principles and processes to meet established production schedules and targets.
- Communicate, support and implement the policies and procedures of the Company through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Hold regular meetings to discuss actual to planned production.
- Set attainable goals for each area/department and challenge Associates to meet or exceed goals. These goals must be in line with the Company’s objectives and priorities.
- Complete performance reviews as required.
- Lead Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders and other support staff as necessary.
- Provide support and direction to the organizations KPI (Key Performance Indicators). Create and implement action plans where necessary to achieve assigned KPI targets for the Manufacturing department.
- Determine the manpower requirement for permanent and temporary Associates and assist in the hiring process for the Manufacturing department.
- Contribute to ongoing strategic planning and budgeting.
- Implementation, enforcement and maintaining Health and Safety systems, policies and procedures including managing an effective Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Responsible for production workforce including allocation of Associates, training, personal development and performance management.
- Participate in the development of and defined production operations targets.
- Interface with production Associates to listen to concerns and suggestions and provide direction, support and coaching.
- Ensure that individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood; performance measurement objectives are identified, measured and monitored on an on-going basis in order to provide positive feedback on accomplishments and ensure immediate action is taken to address shortfalls.
- All other reasonable duties as assigned by Management.
Education & Experience:
- Post-Secondary Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 7 years’ management experience in a fast pace but low volume manufacturing environment with high level of complexity and sku’s
- A leader who is determined, results oriented, persuasive, a good communicator but most importantly a strong focus on developing and motivating our associates.
- Basic skillset in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
- Solid organizational skills.
- Strong Project Management background.
Other Activities:
- Proven track record in plant leadership, organization, team building, lean manufacturing, material flow optimization, strong people skills with a high sense of urgency.
- Solid experience with hiring, on-boarding, training, coaching and discipline is mandatory.
- Ability to meet and maintain financial and budgetary goals.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to coach, facilitate, solve work related issues and participate in the work of the team.
- Previous experience managing Associate KPI’s.
- Proficient working in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and/or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system, Visual Manufacturing an asset.
- Possess high professional ethics, good judgment and the ability to take decisive action.
- Must be a leader, strategic thinker and problem solver.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, team building and advanced coaching skills to motive and develop Associates and Leadership.
- Strong working knowledge and compliance with employment legislation including; ESA, OHSA, Human Rights, etc.
